What is the fashion like?
Then the unforeseen occurred.
Technical wear became trendy: in 1984, in Milan, when the Milanese youth made the most of what their time had to offer. Seduced by designer labels, they chose Henri Lloyd for their uniform, which included Timberland shoes, Levi's 501 and the Consort Original jacket by Henri Lloyd.
The jacket designed in 1965 was worn by Sir Francis Chichester on his epic journey. Initially created for life at sea, it became the craze throughout Europe.
Thus Henri Lloyd clothing was
suddenly the key accessory for defining the image of a generation aged eighteen to thirty-five, and the brand was virtually hurled into uncharted waters: fashion. And, true to his pioneering spirit, Henri did not draw back.
The idea was to exploit Henri Lloyd's heritage and British attitude, merging it with Italian flare. Hence, in the 1990s Great Britain was the heart of the fashion revolution when Henri Lloyd launched Black Label, a sophisticated collection inspired by sportswear and innovative technical fabrics designed by Massimo Goggi. The collection mirrored the mood of the times and, in 1997, Henri Lloyd was acknowledged as Fashion Brand of the Year.
Today Henri Lloyd proposes both menswear and womenswear with flagship stores from London to Sydney.
From quays to catwalks. That's a long way for a sailing wear manufacturer from Manchester.
